Description

A garden with Jonquils growing in  Humbug Scrub this winter inspired me to produce this painting.

Jonquils appear each winter, just when a bit of colour is needed.  They have a delightful smell.  However, some don’t appreciate their scent and refer to them as “stinkers”.

Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in bushland approximately 50 kms North East of Adelaide in the Mount Lofty Ranges.

Situated in natural bush setting, the Sanctuary was established by Thomas Bellchambers in 1905.

The Sanctuary is committed to the preservation of native flora and fauna.

Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary is a private sanctuary, staffed by volunteers and is the oldest private Sanctuary in South Australia.
These flowers were growing in the garden of Tom’s original cottage, which is now a museum.
