Description
The Gymea lily is a most impressive plant. It has sword-like leaves more than 1 metre long and it grows a flower spike up to 6 metres high, and is endemic to coastal areas of New South Wales near Sydney.
My painting started out as a mono print from a discarded palette.
I applied some Indian ink, and the resulting line to me resembled a Gymea Lily plant growing in front a sandstone wall, so prevalent in Sydney.
I then completed with work with oil paint, and line drawing with lead and coloured pencils.
