Description
My painting ‘Abstract Seaweed 1’ was inspired by the beautiful shapes of this amazing plant.
Seaweed species such as kelps provide essential nursery habitat for fisheries and other marine species and thus protect food sources; other species, such as planktonic algae, play a vital role in capturing carbon, producing up to 90% of Earth’s oxygen.
Seaweeds play a major role in marine ecosystems. … Beds of seaweed provide shelter and habitat for scores of coastal animals for all or part of their lives. They are important nurseries for many commercial species such as the rock lobster, pāua (abalone) and green-lipped mussel
Edible seaweed, or sea vegetables, are seaweeds that can be eaten. They include kelp, wakame arame, kombu and nori..
Seaweed is undeniably nutrient-rich. It is an excellent source of minerals, fibre and trace elements. It contains high levels of vitamin A, B12, K and folate, and is a good vegetarian protein source. It contains a concentrated source of iodine, which is essential for good thyroid function.
