Description
My painting ‘Abstract Hydrangeas’ was inspired by the glorious Hydrangea flowers are in bloom right now in South Australia.
However, to find suitable hydrangeas to paint I had to head to the hills. To a far more suitable growing climate (damp and cool) in Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens.
Hydrangea flower color changes based on the pH in soil. From white, to pink, blue and purple, so various substances can be added to the soil to achieve the desired colour.
Hydrangea root and rhizome are used for conditions of the urinary tract, and in Japan and Korea the flower petals are used to make tea.
